A Black History Month Event
First published in 1977, this engaging biography is the story of Abd al-Rahman Ibrahima, a Muslim slave in Natchez, Mississippi, who was in fact an African prince. This 30th anniversary edition features new material discovered since the original publication and has been released to coincide with a new documentary about Ibrahima's life.
The well-educated Rahman was prince of an African kingdom larger and more developed than the newly formed United States before his capture and shipment in chains to this country to be sold as a slave.
The prince endured the humiliation of slavery without ever losing his dignity or hope for freedom. His story is one of great courage and intelligence. Please join us to learn more about it and partipate in the discussion. There is no admission charge.
